Best Used Graphics Cards: Value Picks for Every Budget

One note about the 5600 XT at the low end— while it was desirable for mining, though less so than the 5700/XT as it has less and slower VRAM, it's also a clock-limited GPU (1780 MHz max) so unless it's BIOS-flashed (which not all could be), even when mined it likely wasn't pushed as hard as the other 2 due to these limitations. I have a used (eBay) Pulse 5600 XT which looks and performs perfectly.

eBay has very strong buyer protections.

If you buy a card that is not "for parts" and it doesn't work, eBay makes it super easy to ship the card back and get your money back.

I've gotten a dead 3080 and got my money back no problems. Got a dead 5600x and got my money back no issues. Got scammed on a 6700xt and got my money back, no hassle.

This sounds like a lot of parts but that's three parts out of three whole systems I've built use, that were easily 50-60% off what I would have paid for the same level of performance with new parts.

Soon, these giant cards such as 3050 will become obsolete or upgrade to a more potent graphic cards due to integrated graphics working at the same speed.
I dont know about you, but I like the idea of having
an itx box for various tasks that can also run games.

My outlook on rdna4 not competing with high end or flagship market. A blind spot in competing in the midrange is the second hand used market from Nvidia. Will gamers purchase a new rdna 4 card or a used 4080, 4070ti super, and or 4070ti depending where the performance lands? For every 1 Radeon card there is almost 9 Nvidia cards sold based on market share analysis.

I am predicting that the used market from 4080 super and lower will lose value significantly when rdna4 drops and the 4090 will probably hold value probably around the $1200 to $1500 whe Blackwell drops.

While going for the midrange makes the most sense to gain market share I believe AMD will be competing directly with this second hand market.
The second pressure point will be from Battlemage depending where that lands as well.
We will likely see a crazy price war in the life of rdna4 from my outlook and gamers will win!

I checked my local market, and I'll definitely get a used RX 6800 if I were to hunt for a mid-tier GPU. They are similarly priced to RTX 3060 while being more powerful for games (and probably video editing in Resolve), and only a tad bit slower for Blender.
It is a really good card, although ridden by high power consumption, which is a shame tbh.

The only cards with significantly better power consumption for performance than the 6800 are current gen 40xx series, so if you don't want to pay the premium for current gen cards, the 6800 is a really good option.

And as always you can undervolt and adjust clocks to reduce power use, further increasing efficiency. The only series of cards that don't seem to respond as well as I'd like to UV and clock changes are the AMD 7xxx series GPUs, maybe because of the new chiplet design.

Intelligent consumer.

For the last 4 months, I've purchased 3x RX 6800 cards:
1x BNIB XFX QICK
1x 2nd hand Powercolor Fighter
1x 2nd hand Asus TUF

Those 3 cards can be undervolted to 910-915mV and the maximum total board power during long-session gaming are 160w.

As I am a web developer, My 3rd gen intel I5 and rx470 is enough but I am looking to upgrade. The 3060ti prices dropped a lot. Here you get get a 3060ti for a little more than a GTX 1070 ti which makes it great price to performance. On AMD's front, most prob a 6600xt although I am still leaning towards the 3060. It is a little more and I do not care about raytracing but I would prefer dlss. Only problem I ever have with nvidia is, I hate their drivers. To undervolt my AMD gpu takes 2 seconds. The same cannot be said about Nvidia.
