The smallest of upgrades but the USB-C AirPods Pro 2 are still the best earbuds for iPhone owners.

If you already own a pair, are these new buds worth buying? If you have an older pair, probably not. The new acoustic architecture sounds great, but it's not a compelling enough reason on its own. Even in back-to-back tests, I had a hard time picking between them on audio alone. That’s a testament to how good they already were, and to the fact that Apple knows how not to mess up a good thing. Sometimes you don’t need to reinvent the wheel, you just need to tune a few spokes.

Apple has delivered a substantial upgrade with the AirPods Pro 2. They amp up many of the features we loved about the original, and while they’re not perfect, they offer some of the best noise cancelation and spatial audio of any pair of earbuds available.

If you’re rocking the regular AirPods and you’re ready to go Pro — or you’re getting your first Apple earbuds — the AirPods Pro 2 are a better buy than ever. I’d recommend the USB-C model for most people, but if you’re using an iPhone 14 or older and don’t want to have separate cords for each, the Lightning model is still a great pickup.
