The official "Bing Wallpaper app" does some nasty, malware-like things to Windows

Am I the only one that finds it hilarious with M$ is expounding the virtues of Win 11 being a security first OS that everyone should be using for that reason, and then they release a malware wallpaper app? M$ is pivoting to making security it's major focus?? No, M$ is continuing its focus on using FUD to trick end users into believing that their a "good" guy.

It's funny when people run to Windows 11 like lemmings because, "it's the best Windows ever". But then again, they say that with every edition. I haven't found anything M$ does since Windows 7 funny in the least. Beyond Windows 7, everything M$ has done, could be better described as lecherous, treacherous, and parasitic.

What I do find hilarious, is the way the younger "techies", jump on every new new fad, unquestioningly, without any critical thought applied whatsoever. It doesn't even have to work, or work correctly, to be the object of desire.

This pretty much says it all, bright shiny baubles enthrall:

I like your way of looking at it and agree!

Still, I can't help saying that I detest this disgusting "company," called Microsoft.

It gets worse and worse. W12 will possibly make the word "privacy," irrelevant. MS actually reminded me of the classic book, George Orwell' s 1984. Long term plan is starting to hint of "Big Brother."

Well, Windows is the "Android" of home operating systems So that many of its users are inexperienced. They base their choices like, "oh, that looks cool".....then it gets the big double click. And then "Bing-O" you're in-fuc-ted.
Fair point. People are generally fairly tech-dumb. BITD the general public would praise software and OS makers but look to the geek-crowd for cues on how to use and run it. Now they just listen to the marketing crap companies shovel at them.

That's not really true for all of us. Some like me prefer to base an overall opinion on the early days of working on the new OS.
For example, I despised Windows 7 at the start. Even though 7 was friendly to outdated hardware, all MS did was take the end result of Vista and plaster the "7" name on it and raked in the cash. Somehow, that didn't bother the fan girls.
I hated the start menu on 8, but learned it and eventually, and right up to now, you couldn't pay me to go back to the old one.

No, 7 is distinctly different from Vista is key ways. Those were lessons learned from Vista, but many features and functionality found in 7 wasn't a thing in Vista.

That's because it wasn't true and no one ever thought of it.

That is just crazy talk..

Well, as I have said before, I love tech, but am far from what people would call a techie.
But between my games, my productivity software and general web use I saw and felt absolutely nothing gained in my jump to 7 except that my CAD software update a week after Win 7s release required that 7 be installed.
That's because it wasn't true and no one ever thought of it.
Ok, but I would bet I can find as many people that agree with me as you can find that agree with you.
That is just crazy talk.
If only I had a quarter for every time I have heard that

But yeah, I liked the start menu, and it was a massive improvement for me.
I prefer it as it is today, but I liked it with 8 more and more as I learned its features and tricks.
Which I know for a fact even the techies didn't bother to find or learn.

@ZedRM I think our recent election proved the lack of awareness, gullibility and blatant stupidity of the US public at large_full stop. It's hard to imagine that doesn't carry over to the other segments of their lives.

The US has the most effective method of distributing propaganda the world has ever known, our advertising industry Politicos and manufacturers alike, have learned full well how to make the most effective use of it.

Besides, why would you think you need to consult someone who knows more than you, when you already think you know it all? We're all guilty of that to one extent or another.

More to topic, I don't quite get why anyone would want M$ to change their wallpaper for them by active means, when you can go to Alpha Coders and get all of it you want, on just about any topic, free of charge.

M$ has become a "Judas goat", leading, no forcing, the uninformed to their detriment, if not their slaughter.

This issue has unfortunately tapped into larger observations about sociology and psychology with me. I'll curtail and apologize for my rant.

Many saw 7 as the OS Microsoft intended Vista to be. 7 genuinely feels more refined and polished(because it really is). I think that more than anything else was what sold the masses on it. Microsoft knocked it out of the park with Windows 7.

I can count on one hand how many people have said they like Windows 8, including you. You're the only person who ever said they prefer the Start screen of 8 VS a proper menu.
If only I had a quarter for every time I have heard that
And I'll bet you've heard it alot, no offense though.

This is were disagree again. But let's not invoke the wrath of the TS admins with political talk..

I think everyone can feel your pains and concerns, even if we have differing views.

Poetry in motion! Then that picture too. Complex emotions triggered. I wept.

That's not entirely true, nor inherently false either.

Windows 7 is Vista "prettied up". Vista's "failing", as it were, was due to a lack of available 3rd party drivers. The rest of the industry hadn't prepared itself properly for it. To it's credit, Vista first introduced native SATA drivers. I still have it on an ancient laptop, and it's never missed a beat. I guess Toshiba mastered the driver situation, while they were packing it with bloatware. Funnily enough, I put in an SSD, and it didn't appreciably improve its performance. But then again, it is SATA 1, which isn't that much faster than PATA.

Windows 7 introduced "Media Center", which was topical, as people were using their PCs for more than just browsing the web.

Win 7 also introduced the ability to cycle wallpapers, which brings us back to topic.

Windows 8 attempted to turn the Windows interface into that of a cellphone. Since I don't own, nor technically know how to negotiate their interface, Windows 8 was a complete non starter for me. Which BTW, cost Steve Baumer his job. Thereby bringing us the CEO we all love to hate, "he whose name must not be spoken".

Hey, I know I'm kind of backward in that regard. But my old eyes aren't quite up to the task of reading webpages on those tiny little screens

I didn't say I liked 8, it bugged the s*** out of me often. I said I liked the start menu.
Pay attention if "quoting" me, please.
But anyway, you are one of thousands that quote the party line on Win 8. But everyone I know with a business and lots of software came to love the 8 start menu.

EDIT - Well not everyone, but most.

I've vocally loathed and despised Nadella since the day M$ hired him. But I think you've really hit the nail on the head with this.

However, I'm concerned we might have to outbid M$ with the DOJ for any action to be taken. (Just idle speculation on my part. Chalk it up to paranoia).
Nope. Chalk it up to the new regime, where those who pay the most money to the regime get preferential treatment. It was a little bit like this between 2016 and 2020, but look out!

I only have two hopes for the new regime. One, that I will still have Social Security at its end. Two, that the MoR Republicans in congress will shoot down some of "he who shall not be named lest the thread be locked's" cabinet appointments. Neither "Dr Oz" or RFK Jr. are fit to run an animal shelter.

But more to the topic at hand, Windows 7 allows wallpaper to be changed at various intervals to as low as 10 seconds. Windows 10 (I believe0, permits it, but stops at 30 seconds.

For my vertical monitors. I usually put up semi-clad to non-clad females (over 18 of course). For landscape orientation I put up, well, landscapes. Admittedly, these are mostly of the Sci-fi nature.

As to adding an "app" to do it for me, I'm much too obstinate and independent to allow Satan Nadella have his way with my machines. They would very much feel, "violated".
